I dint know your age but there are many great funds.
Good bets are target funds. These are funds that automatically invest in the type of diversified holdings based on your age.
Fidelity’s funds that fit this bill are their Freedom Funds.
If you will retire in 2020, you would invest in the Fidelity Freedom Fund 2020, If retire in 2040 the Fidelity Freedom 2040. If you’re not very old, please start a Roth IRA.
    Great vehicle for saving.

If picking mutual funds were as easy as picking the fund with the highest return we would all be rich. Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. Picking a fund which had the highest rate of return in the past is useless because we are always talking past tense. A fund that shot the lights out yesterday could turn out to be a real dog in the future.

Investing in mutual funds can be a wonderful experience but it is not something that falls into the do it yourself category. The performance of a fund more often than not is usually superior to the performance of the investor who owns the fund. This means that the investor did not have any guidance and sold the fund at the wrong time and under performed the actual investment if he would have held onto it.

What I am saying loud and clear is to consult with an experienced investment professional instead of trying to find a “winner” yourself and use his recommendations and listen to him when he tells you not to liquidate when you are nervous and want to bail out if the market dips.

One of the most important things about a mutual fund are the expenses—investigate what you will have to pay up front and ongoing, to maintain your investment.

I suggest an international index fund. Broad diversification with low costs.
