What happens when you overdraw your checking account and the accocunt is closed by the bank for inactivity?

My question is what would happen if my account were to have been overdrawn and remained so for many months, and finally the bank decided to close the account because it was inactive? Does the bank still try and send for their money or does the charges just go away? Will it effect me opening another account with a different financial institution?
