dpesetsky asked: Followup to answer to “Can $12000 per year per child be gifted without inheritance tax even if the money comes from an IRA or 401k?”
Is it state specific?

Leisa asked:
I am with a new employer that does not offer 401k but they are paying higher wages. They said they would be offering 401k this year. In the mean time, what should I do with my 401k? Do I leave it with the company that is already admistrating it or should I roll it over? Can I still make contributions to it? I am new at this. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here is my question. Say I want to withdrawal a certain amount of money from my 401k after tax money, would I have a penalty in doing so? I am not knowledgeable about this and looking for info.

I didn’t get anything from my 401k provider, at least not that I know of. Was I supposed to get a 1099 or something?

I opened a money markey IRA, and was going to converit it to a Roth IRA (im 23) and have rolled my $3,500 from my 401K into my new IRA. When will I have to pay taxes on my $3,500 and when will I pay taxes on my new contributions? Im not sure if I should keep the money market, or change to the Roth. Thanks!

endless_smiles_2000 asked:
I have over $5000 in my 401k with $4000 of it vested. I need surgery that’s going to be around $3500 after insurance pays it’s share. Can I use that money? If I can’t get the money I’m going to be dead anyway, so I don’t see why I won’t be able to.

Waxy asked:
For instance, say I was planning on travelling throughout Europe in a couple years. Would it be better to start a 401K (with my company matching my contribution), and take out the money with penalty in a couple years, or would it be better to put it in a high interest investment?
Thank you for all.

what? asked: Just wondering if it was possible to do this. It would definitely be great to sock away the money in the 401k, get the match, and then roll it to an IRA where I could actually get some decent investment options.
So, does the IRS promote sound investing (let you roll over and make your own choices) or job instability (quit jobs as frequently as possible to be able to put your money where you want it)?
Thanks.

gracie asked:
I work in a small office with approximately 10 employees. My employer seems to deposit funds into my 401k at random intervals instead of each pay period when the funds are withheld from my check. Last time it was over 9 weeks after and this time it’s going on 6 weeks. I just checked online and the deposit still hasn’t been made to my account. Where can I find out the guidelines for this?
