Can a Bank continue to operate a customer’s online banking portal after the bank sells that customers account?

For example: A bank sells a branch to another bank, and all customer accounts are included in the sale. Then the bank that sold all the accounts from that branch continues to pay bills from the accounts of it’s former customers.
